The Byemoor Curling Club held its Mixed Bonspiel on Feb. 29 – March 2. Winning the round-robin bonspiel was the Rumsey team of Betty Primrose. Congratulations to Betty and the crew. Second – Justin Jones, Third – Eugene Nixon, Fourth – Tom McCrindle and Fifth – John Schofer, all local teams.

The bonspiel wrapped up with a pizza feast from the Byemoor Hotel and the awarding of prizes. This bonspiel concludes the curling season in Byemoor.

The Endmoor U9 hockey team hosted a team from Innisfail on Saturday, March 2 at the Endmoor Arena in Byemoor. The Endmoor Thunder U11 team played in Big Valley on Saturday and in Stettler on Sunday.

Remember, Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 10. Set your clocks forward one hour (spring ahead). Daylight Saving Time is in effect until Sunday, Nov. 3 when clocks are set back one hour (fall back).

Doreen Nixon, Eugene Nixon and Becky Nixon enjoyed a 10-day family trip to Las Vegas. They drove down and back and enjoyed the time together, trying their luck in the city that never sleeps.

Friends of Kent Kobi will be happy to know he has moved back to Canada from Australia after living there for 17 years. Kent and his family are relocating to Cochrane, Alberta.

Kent and his children, Riley and Keira, visited with Kent’s parents Russ and Linda Kobi on the weekend. The kids loved the snow, skating and watching hockey.

Congratulations to Kai Tucker on being selected by the Central Alberta Sox baseball academy to play in Red Deer this fall. Kai, who turns 15 in April, will be billeted in Red Deer, as this is a college prep program.

Julie Jones and her daughter Dixie Zorn, along with Bobbi Jones, enjoyed a week-long break from winter in California. They took in the sights in the San Diego area and visited Mark’s sister Sheryle and her family. They also visited with Teri Lynn (nee Trout) in Temecula, Calif.

Congratulations to Tye and Aly Boehlke on the birth of their son Cal Robert David Boehlke on Feb. 23 in Stettler. Cal weighed seven pounds, two ounces, and is also welcomed by big sister Macklynn. Also, congratulations to the grandparents Rocky and Louanne Dahmer and Dave and Sheila Boehlke. Enjoy the newest addition to your family.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Jeff Skaley who passed away in Stettler on Feb. 25 at the age of 30 years. Our thoughts are with the Skaley and Yates families in their very sad loss.

Sullivan Lake West Agricultural Society held its Annual General Meeting on at the Endmoor Arena in Byemoor on Feb. 28. There is no change to the executive. President – Len Schofer, Vice President – Warren Jones, Treasurer – Jaryl Walker and Secretary – Traci Jones.

Plans are underway to have the Byemoor Bull-a-rama on Friday, April 19 at the arena. Anyone wishing to be a sponsor of the event may contact Len Schofer or Jaryl Walker.

Stettler Adult Learning Centre will be at the Byemoor Hotel on Thursday, March 7 from 1 – 3 p.m. for a Digital Drop-In if anyone needs assistance with their digital devices or with forms and information on a wide variety of topics.

Take in the Byemoor Snowmobile Poker Rally on Sunday, March 10, a fundraiser of the Sullivan Lake West Ag. Society.

First hand out at 10 a.m., last out at 2 p.m. and all hands must be in by 6 p.m.

Rally leaves from the Endmoor Arena in Byemoor. Soup and bun lunch are available for $5.

The first weekend of March brought a substantial snowfall to the district, which was welcomed by the agricultural community as it gave hope there may be some run-off to replenish short water supplies.

We’ll see at the end of the month if there is anything to the old adage, “When March comes in like a Lion it goes out like a Lamb.”
