Amy Bishop performs in Coronation

Coronation Royal Performing Arts (CRPA) was back in action on Dec. 2 with the second concert of the 2023-24 concert series.

Taking the stage in Coronation for the dinner show was Calgary-based blues and soul singer Amy Bishop.

Bishop, who has been a full-time Alberta-based musical performer for two decades, was on stage for two 45-minute sets each filled with several original songs, covers, and holiday classics.

In the first half, Bishop performed holiday favourites such as “Deck the Halls,” “Frosty the Snowman,” and “Last Christmas.” Mixed with the favourites was an original holiday song of her own, and her signature song, “Bacon.”

After the break, Bishop was back performing a number of other classics, including “How Great Thou Art,” Mary Did You Know,” and the Leonard Cohen hit “Hallelujah.”

An original song performed by Bishop during the second half was titled “Perfect and Broken.”

Many of the Christmas songs performed throughout both sets were by request and provided ample opportunity for audience participation.

In total, Bishop performed for around two hours including an encore, with much of it intermixed with her trademark wit.

For those wanting to take Bishop’s music home with them, the singer had a merchandise table set up just inside the doors of the Coronation Community Hall which featured a selection of music, stickers, and T-shirts.

As usual, the supper before the concert was catered by Anne Michielsen.

Around 120 tickets were sold for the Amy Bishop concert.

Next up for the CRPA is the band Credence Clearwater Reprisal, which is set to take the stage on Jan. 6, 2024, for an already sold-out show.
