Halkirk holds seafood and comedy night in early February

The Halkirk Elks hosted one of the organization’s largest fundraisers of the year in early February.

An annual tradition, the Halkirk Elks Alaskan Seafood and Comedy Night took place on Feb. 10 at the Halkirk Community Hall.

Only 200 tickets were sold for the event which, according to organizers, was a “near sell-out.”

Lining the walls of the community hall were a variety of silent auction items which those so inclined had the opportunity to bid on.

The meal began at 7 p.m., with a served dish of homemade clam chowder. Following the clam chowder, emcee Charles Muncy began working the crowd and randomly sending tables to load up on a variety of seafood options.

Once all the tables had eaten, the dishes cleared, and the drinks topped off, it was time for the evening’s main event.

The comedian for the evening was Tom Liske, a veteran of CBC’s Just for Laughs and the Calgary Comedy Festival.

Liske’s comedy covered a range of topics from his time living in California to getting a speeding ticket on his way to Halkirk to the dating world, the pandemic, and more.

Multi-talented, Liske even pulled out the guitar and performed some comedy songs set to Canadian classics, such as the Hockey Night in Canada song.

In total, Liske performed for around two hours, leaving the audience in stitches for much of the time.

The Halkirk Elks hold several fundraisers throughout the year including the seafood supper and the Bullarama, with all funds raised remaining in the community.
