The residents of Castor have a new source for alcohol in town. After months of renovations Hoss and Alison Nichols have had their grand-opening for the Liquor Pig liquor store in Castor.

The Nichols took possession of the liquor store on Oct. 1, 2017, and while the store was open during renovations, the interior was an everchanging work in progress, with the store having little resemblance to the liquor store that was in the location before.

Upon walking into the store, the most drastic change is that the till was moved, and the central part of the store is made up of two extended rows of wine racks. At the moment, Hoss believes they carry about 260 different types of wines from across Canada and the world, with room for more. With the wine in addition to the rest of the stock that is carried, the Liquor Pig carries about 900 separate items.

The other major switch is the beer cooler, which was expanded and is now a full-size walk-in cooler, with many different selections of brand and craft beers.

Sandi Jackson, the CAO of the Town of Castor, said it’s great that businesses are being updated in this economic climate and can be used to draw people to our community. Public support for the Liquor Pig was high at the grand opening, with more than 100 people coming through to check out the new look, sample some of the different wines and beers, and have some beef on a bun for supper.
