Saturday, Feb. 10 was a buzz of activity at Ben & Simon’s Pie Shoppe and The Purple Platypus, as they co-hosted the 2nd Annual Meet Ben & Simon event.

Throughout the day, people were encouraged to come in and meet the sons of Mary Ellen White, who she named her business after.

Ben lives in Edmonton, and due to illness ended up not making it to this year’s event.

Simon lives near Castor with his wife Melanie, who runs the storefront, and daughter Ella, who is well known as a part of the Pie Shoppe.

Simon was dressed in the Shoppe’s medieval attire, which is always on display at the Pie Shoppe.

People were challenged to lift the giant sword that Simon was exhibiting for the Strongman competition.

Attendees could also attempt the trivia contest, and Kelly Shoults of A Big Kettle of Fish Design Co. from Calgary was on hand to draw caricatures.

There was also a colouring contest to judge, with entries in 3 age categories.

In the afternoon, Real Country 93.3 was live on location, ParentLink had crafts and cookie decorating set up for the kids, and then the grand finale was the pie eating contest.

$125 was raised through the caricatures for the library and food bank, with each receiving $62.50.
