Conservative voters in the Drumheller-Stettler riding will have a chance to choose their nominee at the end of September.

Those wanting to vote on the United Conservative Party (UCP) candidate need to purchase a party membership on, or before, Sept. 7.

The six voting stations will be located in Provost, Coronation, Stettler, Drumheller, Oyen and Hanna.

“Looks like the noise we made as a large rural area was heard and we have many places to cast your vote,” said Todd Pawsey in a post on his campaign’s Facebook page.

Pawsey is one of three candidates in the race for the UCP nomination, along with Nate Horner and incumbent MLA Rick Strankman.

The successful candidate will become the new UCP nominee and will be in the running for MLA of the Drumheller-Stettler riding in the provincial elections next May.

Strankman has been the riding’s MLA for six years, after first being elected in 2012.

In the last election, he won 47.66 per cent of the vote.

Horner is a Pollockville farmer with a diploma in agricultural business finance from Olds College and a University of Lethbridge agriculture degree.

His family has a history in politics. His great-grandfather Ralph Horner was a senator and his grandfather Jack Horner was an MP.

Pawsey is currently the development officer for the County of Paintearth.

He has a four-year degree in sports, recreation and public administration from the University of Lethbridge and 26 combined years of experience working with municipalities.

Mark Nikota is standing as the nominee of the Alberta Party, and the NDP currently has no one running.

The polling station dates and locations are chosen by the Local Candidate Nominating Committee (LCNC), made up of 30 board members.

The LCNC had originally planned only two poll locations, in Hanna and Coronation, because of their access to main highways and central locations.

The polls will be open on Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Provost and from 5 to 9 p.m. in Coronation.

On Sept. 28, members can cast their ballot in Stettler from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and in Drumheller from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

On Sept. 29, poll stations will be open in Oyen from 8:30 a.m. to noon and in Hanna from 1:30 to 7 p.m.

Poll station venues have yet to be announced.
