Stettler and area music fans have an amazing treat coming to them courtesy of the Stettler Variety Showcase: some of the most talented violinists in the world are coming to Stettler this weekend.

The Chooi Brothers will be performing two shows live at the Stettler Performing Arts Centre on Sunday. All members of the trio have performed, as both soloists and members of numerous famous orchestras, on world stages and have won several international music competitions.

Nikki Chooi, winner of the 2013 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, held the world’s most prestigious violin post as Concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in 2016/17.

Timothy Chooi, described as “the Miracle” (Montreal La Presse) is regarded as one of the most promising and exciting young artists in the world today. His passion is to expand the classical music audience by increasing its appeal to the young generation via his self-made online videos in non-traditional locations.

Together, the duo has an intrinsic musical union which makes their artistry unique and interesting.

Philip Chiu, known as the extremely sociable pianist, is more than a summation of technical and musical abilities. He has become one of Canada’s leading musicians, who through his infectious love of music is passionate to provide programs that inspire and entertain audiences.

The trio provide a fresh twist to the typical classical violin and piano concert, which highlights significant points in history, showcased through the music of composers Grieg, Prokofiev, Ravel, and Canadian composer, Arcuri. Melodies range from jazz-influenced classical to political commentary to classical showpieces.

Thanks to Prairie Debut, Stettler was chosen as one of only three places in Alberta to showcase these artists.

So don’t miss this rare opportunity to be mesmerized, and enchanted by the beautiful music of the Chooi Brothers and Philip Chiu.

The Chooi Brothers live Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Stettler Performing Arts Center, two shows: 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets available at Wish Kitchen & Gift (403-742-8484) and at the door. Adults are $25, students are $10.
