The East Central Eagles hockey team held its home opener on April 14.

According to one of the spring-league organizers, Shiana Younger, the U15 team played Lloydminster in a doubleheader.

Castor Mayor Richard Elhard and deputy Mayor Kevin McDougall joined the team at the Beaverdome on the day.

The two elected officials performed the inaugural puck drop between the Eagle’s Ella Younger and Lloydminster’s Haven Schlosser.

The Eagles tied the first game 1-1 with a goal by Jayce Miazga.

The Eagles came up short in game two, falling 6-2 with Ella Younger and Emma Galletly scoring.

The U13 team was also in action the same weekend.

They first defeated the Edmonton Ice Wolves 5-2, then downed the Red Deer Rustlers with a score of 3-1.

Ryan Lessner scored the first goal in East Central Eagles history to win the first game, according to Shiana Younger.

During the Ice Wolves game, goals were scored by Blake and Ryan Lessner, Kylee Leischner (twice), and McKenna Dechaine.

In the game against the Rustlers, goals were scored by Leischner, Noah Soriao, and Lily Nguyen.

The spring hockey program in Castor will run until around mid-May.
