Byemoor/Endiang news

News for the week of Aug. 4, 2022

On July 19 a devastating hailstorm swept through the south side of the Byemoor and Endiang communities, leaving a path of destruction.

At the heart of the storm gardens and crops were 100 percent destroyed, trees had their leaves stripped and vehicles and buildings were damaged. It was very disappointing for farmers to lose what looked like a very promising crop this year.

Remember the Wade Buchwitz Memorial Gymkhana is coming up on Friday, Aug. 12 beginning at 10 a.m. A full day of events for all ages is scheduled at the Endiang Riding and Roping Club arena in Endiang.

For more information contact Twila Buchwitz at 403-323-0397.

Keep in mind the Byemoor Slo-Pitch Tournament is coming up on Aug. 19-21. The parade is on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. The parade theme this year is “Blast from the Past,” which should be a fun one to create parade entries with.

Clubs, organizations, businesses and individuals be sure to entry in the parade, the more the better.

The Kids Carnival is on Saturday, Aug. 20 from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Byemoor Arena. Volunteers and sponsors are welcomed. Contact Rebecca Schofer via Facebook for more details.

Pancake breakfasts will be served on both Saturday and Sunday mornings at the Byemoor Hall. The slo-pitch tournament wraps up Sunday afternoon.

Congratulations to Matthew and Mandy (nee Wasdal) Nelson of Red Deer on the arrival of their daughter Rylee Rae Nelson on July 25. Rylee weighed in at seven pounds three ounces and is welcomed by big brother Owen.

Also, congratulations are sent to the local grandparents Jim and Maureen Wasdal and great-grandmothers Lee Hunt and Dot Wasdal on a wonderful addition to their family.

Get well wishes are sent to Doreen Nixon who underwent knee replacement surgery on July 27 at the Red Deer hospital. We hope you are on the mend and running races soon, Doreen.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Margaret Levesque who passed away on July 22 at the age of 89 years. Margaret was a long-time companion of the late Ernie Petrussa. Our thoughts are with Margaret’s family.

Farmers are busy in the hay fields wrapping up their winter supply of feed. Rains delayed haying season a bit this year but it also created a good cut of hay. The silaging of grain for feed is also underway.

Happy Birthday wishes are sent to Art Gutsche, celebrating his 92nd birthday on Aug. 1, and to Margaret Jones, celebrating her 87th birthday on Aug. 3. Hope you both had a great day and best wishes for many more.
