Byemoor School students were thrilled to have World Champion saddle bronc rider Zeke Thurston visit them for Read In Week. Not only did Zeke read to the students but he also signed autographs, which was a hit.

Keep in mind the Byemoor fall roast beef supper is on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 4-7 p.m. at the Byemoor Community Hall. Come and enjoy some fine Alberta beef.

Maureen Wasdal and Audrey (nee Ackerman) Noel enjoyed a week-long cruise from Montréal to Boston. They had port stops at Quebec City, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; Sydney and Halifax, Nova Scotia; Portland, Maine and Boston.

Albert and Jean Mappin also enjoyed a cruise. They cruised from Montréal to New York, stopping at several ports along the way.

Russ and Linda Kobi and Les and Rosemary Stulberg spent eight days touring Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and a corner of New Brunswick to travel the Confederation Bridge to P.E.I. It was an amazing experience and autumn colours were gorgeous.

For Linda, it was a great start to enjoying her retirement, after working at the Byemoor School for 25 years.

Talk about coincidence, Les and Rosemary bumped into Albert and Jean Mappin strolling along the Halifax Harbour the day they stopped at the Halifax port.

A large number of family and friends gathered at the Winnie Paulsen farm for the annual Grant Paulsen memorial skeet shoot on the Thanksgiving weekend. The group enjoyed beautiful weather this year, along with much visiting and reminiscing.

Endiang floor curling club has been busy participating in floor curling tournaments. They sent three teams to each Botha and Castor for fun days of curling.

Byemoor School is in search of some pumpkins. If you have some extra ones you wish to donate, please contact the school.

Byemoor School Awards will be held on Friday, Oct. 26 at 2:15 p.m. at the school gymnasium.

A sign recognizing Big Valley as the home of rodeo champion Zeke Thurston has been erected at the entrance of the Village of Big Valley. The sign pays tribute to Zeke’s stellar career in saddle bronc riding. He has claimed the Calgary Stampede championship for three consecutive years (2015, 2016 and 2017) and was also named the PRGA World Champion in 2016. Big Valley is proud of its home-grown talent.

Big Valley Grade 7-9 students attended the conservation camp at Alford Lake, west of Caroline on Oct. 2-4. Mrs. Rairdan, Ms. Mappin and Mr. Knight accompanied the students on the outdoor education trip.

Big Valley School Awards for Grades 4-9 were held at the school on Oct. 17. Congratulations to all students on their achievements.

On Oct. 31 Big Valley School students’ union are hosting a variety of Halloween activities at the school, including a haunted house, costume parade and games.

Big Valley Drop-In Centre is hosting a pancake supper on Monday, Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. with all welcome.

Thought for the day — “If you see your glass as half empty, pour it into a smaller glass.”
