The graduating class of 2018 came together as a group in the Gus Wetter School gymnasium for one final time on September 30th, in honour of the 34th annual awards night and convocation.
The awards night recognizes the hard work that is accomplished by both the junior-high and senior-high students during the last school year.
“I am amazed and humbled every day,” said Gus Wetter School Principal Daram van Oers, while speaking on his fifteen years at the school during his opening address, before addressing the 2018 graduates.
“You are blessed to grow up in a small-town environment,” said van Oers, “You learned well rounded human values.”
The list of awards presented featured students from grades seven up to the graduating class, with some being sponsored by Clearview Public Schools, Castor I.O.D.E., and Castor & District Agricultural Society. Some memorial scholarships were awarded as well.
In total 29 students from grades seven to twelve were added to the Clearview Public Schools Honour Roll, and 94 separate awards and scholarships were presented, along with the graduating class diplomas.
The theme of the 2018 graduating class was “Small town, big dreams,” which is appropriate, because now that convocation is over and awards are done, the graduating class of 2018 will be scattering across Alberta and the globe, taking their small town values and fulfilling their dreams.
