Melanie White received a surprise gift on May 15.

Krista Connon had fundraised through Mel’s regular coffee crowd at Ben and Simon’s Pie Shoppe, with 22 people contributing, to gift her with a set of Enchroma glasses.

Mel has been colour-blind all her life and has always wanted to “see the world in all its beautiful colours.” She can see primary colours and all different shades of those colours but that’s it. These glasses allow her to see all the colours – purples, greens, oranges, etc. For the first time, she was able to see her daughter’s favourite colour purple. It was an emotional day, with many happy tears shed by Mel, Krista, Mel’s mother-in-law Mary Ellen White, myself and many more.

Golden Circle hosts bingo

There was a good attendance again at the Castor Golden Circle for the Castor Elks Bingo on May 16. About 25 people came out to try their luck at winning, while enjoying free coffee as well as snacks from the concession. The next bingo is on May 30. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with pre-call starting around 7:15 p.m.

Around town

I met a lovely couple and their three girls this past week. They were in town from Calgary, checking on the acreage they bought nearby. The family will move here this summer, with the girls, Veronica, Rebecca and Elizabeth, attending Theresetta School in the fall.

Esther and Craig Bylsma were in Castor for the weekend visiting Esther’s parents, Mary Ellen and Elias White. The Whites had a gathering at their home on Sunday afternoon to celebrate Esther’s upcoming birthday. The party attendees also ended up Pastor Brent Siemen’s birthday, which is on May 22.

My sister-in-law, Kim Kimmel, has been in town visiting since May 11. She set up a small pop-up shop on Main Street doing gel nails just in time for grad. We have had a great visit – Kevin and I treated her and our friend Jamie Geddes from Galahad to supper on Mother’s Day. We went to bingo and have been binge-watching Quantico on Netflix. Sadly, this visit will be coming to an end this weekend.

We also had a couple friends and their kitties visiting us over the weekend from Calgary. Karyn and Denise enjoyed the barbecue with us at the Whites, as well as exploring the area. You may have even seen them out walking their cats.
