New phone books available in Halkirk

Christmas lights to be hung this week

The Snack Shack has been authorized to distribute the new area phonebooks. Residents are asked to stop in and pick up their copy.

A nice sized crowd attended the potluck dinner organized by Pastor Jim on Saturday, Nov. 18 in the hall. This was followed by a presentation of Southern Gospel Music by “ Double Portions” which features Duncan and Debra Hemmerling and their family of ten children from North Battleford, Sk. The Hemmerling family has taken their musical message across Canada and into the United States. They held a repeat concert and the Evangelical Missionary Church on Sunday.

The seniors met at the centre on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for their monthly potluck supper and meeting. The Christmas supper meeting will be held on Dec. 19. Don’t forget that floor curling is held every Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Councilors Dale Kent and Sherry Jamieson represented the Village at the AUMA convention in Calgary during the week.

Congratulations to Tia Rowland and Anthony Glasier from Coronation on the birth of a 8 lb. 13 oz. baby girl, Aubrey Jean, born in Stettler on Nov. 17. Aubrey is the first grandchild for Marty and Donna Rowland and the first great- grandbaby for Lonny and Cindy Nelner and for George and Margret Rowland.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Don Emmett who passed away in Castor on Sunday, Nov. 19. Don was born and raised a half mile west of town and their family story is on page 352 of Home Fires. Don was well known for his love and dedication to the community and for sports, curling, softball and slow pitch in particular. Services were held in the United Church in Castor on Saturday.

The Christmas lights are scheduled to be hung on Tuesday. Perfect timing as Santa will be in town on Sunday morning, Dec. 3 visiting with the local children at the hall. The Elks and friends will be busy cooking a pancake breakfast, so be sure to bring your family and your camera.

Bingo will be held at the hall on Dec. 9 and Dec. 23 at 7:30.
