The annual “Spirit of Endiang” volunteer appreciation hosted by Dan and Verla Buchwitz is set for June 23 at the Endiang Community Hall. They also wish to recognize the pioneer business families of Endiang this year with a supper and musical entertainment.

There is an admission charge for the event and reservations for supper are preferred, but not compulsory. Call Dan and Verla at 403-854-0521 for further information and with numbers attending.

The event to recognize Senior’s Week at the Endmoor Drop-In Centre in Byemoor had to be cancelled again, so there won’t be one this year but will be on again for next year.

In Big Valley, the seniors are being honoured on June 21 with a luncheon at noon at the Big Valley Drop-In Centre.

Terry Gallant, Eldon and Sharon McCrindle and Darlene Webb attended a Funk family reunion in Victoria, B.C. on the June 8-10 weekend. They enjoyed gathering with their many cousins, all grandchildren of Leonard and Ida Funk, and the children of Jean (Funk) James, Mickey (Funk) Ackerman and Nonie (Funk) Horne. Their brother, Bill Funk, had no children but was fondly remembered as well.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Mike Keith who passed away on June 9 at the age of 78 years. Mike was a life-long resident of the Byemoor community. She was raised in the Rustle district between Byemoor and Endiang, the daughter of Lloyd and Helen Walker.

Mike and her late husband, Cameron Keith, raised five children (Pat, Tom, Jim, Shawna and Brian) on their farm near Byemoor.

Mike was a great community supporter and will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. The funeral for Mike was held at the Byemoor Hall on June 14.

Our thoughts are with the Keith and Walker families as well as Mike’s sister Lois Ballinger and her family in their time of loss.

Kory Bremer, bride-to-be of Randy Schofer, was honoured with a bridal shower on June 12 at the Byemoor Hall, where she was showered with many lovely gifts. Kory and Randy will be married on Aug. 11.

Friends of Bob Ackerman will be interested to know he has recently retired and will be moving back to Alberta, soon to take up residence in Sylvan Lake. Bob was raised on a farm near Endiang and attended school in Endiang and Byemoor, before spending much of his working career in B.C. Welcome home, Bob.

Keep in mind these coming events: County of Stettler Town Hall meeting for the Big Valley, Byemoor and Endiang area is at the Byemoor Community Hall on June 21 at 7 p.m.

An 80th birthday party is planned for Yvonne Burnstad on June 23 from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Big Valley Drop-In Centre.

A bridal shower for Shauna Wing, future bride of Devon Mappin, is on June 24 at 2 p.m. at the Byemoor Community Hall. Ladies please bring lunch.

The Plein Air (outdoor) painting event has been scheduled for July 21 in Big Valley. The workshop will be instructed by Calgary artist and art instructor Cheryl Peddie and will take place at various locations throughout Big Valley. Following the classes there will be an art show and sale set during the time the steam train arrives. For more information contact Rose at 403-741-9800 or Cindy at 403-876-2132.
