The Stettler chapter of Gideons International in Canada held their second of two annual fall suppers on Oct. 24 at the Evangelical Free Church of Erskine.
About 80 people attended the free supper as a fundraiser hosted every fall that is used build their membership and keep the funds coming in to fulfill their mandate of distributing scripture to those who ask, free of charge. The first supper they hosted was held the day prior in Veteran, AB.
“It’s been a great year,” said Stettler Chapter member Allan Blume. “My only disappointment is we have no new members.”
The Stettler Gideons currently have 11 members and are always looking for more to carry their message, and to help pass out Bibles in Grade 5 classrooms around the school district, which is something they do every fall.
Known for placing their distinctive Bibles in hotel rooms and hospitals around the world, the Gideons formed in the United States in 1899, coming to Canada in 1911. Since then, the ministry has grown with tremendous energy around the world. More than two million copies of the Bible were handed out in 2017, and their app has been downloaded in 139 countries.
