Coronation Royal Performing Arts (CRPA) kicked off the start off the 2022-2023 concert season with a bang.
Starting the concert season on Nov. 4 was the long-awaited performance by East Coast trio the Ennis Sisters.
The Juno Award winning group was on their second Alberta tour of 2022, after finishing one in the spring where they finished off the abbreviated 2022 spring concert season for Stettler Variety Showcase.
Originally booked in 2019, the concert had been delayed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic before finally being able to go ahead this fall.
CRPA confirmed that 126 supper tickets and 141 concert tickets had been sold in advance for the show, though not everyone made it out as the roads proved challenging due to snow the day before.
As usual, Country Catering was contracted to provide the meals for all the dinner shows this season. The meal for the first show consisted of pork loin, baby potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, pasta salad, coleslaw and a variety of desserts.
The Ennis Sisters took to the stage around 7:30 p.m. with special guest pianist Wade Tarling, who is touring with the group.
Celebrating their 25th anniversary performing together, the trio performed a variety of original music spanning their career, from new songs like “Daughters of Newfoundland” to former number two chart hit “It’s not about you.”
The group also played a a couple of covers, such as Buddy Holly’s “Dream.”
In total, the group performed 15 songs split into two sets in the nearly two hours they were on the Coronation stage.
Next up for CRPA is the vocal talents of Jenn Beaupre with Lewis Frere on Nov. 26. Tickets are still available for both the concert and supper.
