Excitement is building over the line-up of terrific artists set to perform during the coming Stettler Variety Showcase season, which kicks off Nov. 2nd with a dinner show featuring Donny Lee.

Other highlights this season include ‘A Lizzy Hoyt Christmas’ on Dec. 8th, Terry Barber on Jan. 19th and Maya Rae on March 8th.

All performances take place at the Stettler Performing Arts Centre except for the Lee show, which runs at the Stettler Community Hall.

Another not-to-be-missed performance is slated for next May 3rd, as the Accidental Humour Co. presents ‘The Flying Detective’.

‘With their trademark mix of cinematic projection and eye-popping stage magic, Accidental Humour Co. will take you on a high flying adventure filled with action, comedy and heart’, noted a release.

“Our mission is to provide a variety of entertainment and cultural enrichment to the community, and ‘variety’ is the key word,” explained Linda Gimbel, vice chair of the Stettler Variety Showcase.

Season tickets (which include the dinner show featuring Lee in the community hall plus the other four concerts) are available at Wish Kitchen & Gift on Main Street (adults pay $135 and the price for students is $70.)

Single Sunday concerts cost $30 for adults and $15 for students.

Meanwhile, the Stettler Variety Showcase Association was launched about 40 years ago as the Stettler and District Overture Concert Association with the goal of bringing quality artists and performances that would usually only be seen in larger centres, reads a release.

“The Association’s name was later changed to ‘Stettler Variety Showcase’ to highlight ‘variety’ as we continue to present a wide range of genres and styles of family entertainment at a reasonable cost.”

Besides hosting the concerts, finding and booking artists is also the responsibility of the board.

The Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta is the main source for finding quality entertainment via a weekend showcase each October.

“Those are three days when we spend the entire time listening to 10-minute performances - it’s amazing, and one of the perks of being a board member is that you get to participate in that,” explained Pam Taylor, chair of the Stettler Variety Showcase.

“People are attending this conference from across the province, so we get to see acts that are a lot of fun to watch. They bring in top-notch, amazing performances for us to see.”

Both women are confident local audiences will be very pleased with the artists selected for the coming year.

“It’s a super-exciting season,” said Taylor.

Gimbel added that the organization is currently seeking new board members, as well as volunteers who could help out at the performances, too.
