Castor fitness leader takes classes virtual

Social isolation is no reason to skip your workout!

As Central Albertans join others in doing their part to #PlankTheCurve during these days of COVID-19, finding ways to stay well has never been more important.

A big part of that – especially while maintaining social distance – is fitness. (And if a plank pose is part of that plan, all the better!)

“Staying active not only supports our physical wellness, but also our mental and emotional wellness,” explains Castor’s Leanne Lougheed. A certified personal trainer since 2010, Leanne took her passion for health and wellness to the next level in 2018, opening Quality Fitness Studio.

Today, to ensure she can continue to provide access to quality fitness instruction, with exercises you can undertake in your own home with no extra gear, Leanne is taking her instruction online!

“As we realize this is the ‘new normal,’ at least for awhile, this is a great way to stay connected and stay fit,” she says.

Here’s a look at what’s happening:

Virtual class – For the next little while, all classes and personal training are going virtual through the Zoom online video conference platform – free for class participants and super-easy to use. Once you’ve registered for a Quality Fitness class, you’ll receive an email invite to the class; click the link on your computer and you and your classmates will see Leanne at the head of the class. You’ll follow along just like any other class, except Leanne will be demonstrating the moves on your computer!

  • Tuesday/Thursday Morning Blast, from 9 to 10 a.m.
  • Tuesday Intro to Strength (using body weight) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday Seniors’ Class, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday HIIT (High Impact Interval Training) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Adaptations will be shown to make the exercises easier or more advanced, and no additional gear is required. “If you have weights to use, you can definitely use them, but you won’t need them,” Leanne says.

Virtual personal training – Also working through Zoom, Leanne provides one-on-one fitness training, using what you have on-hand in your workout. This is your opportunity to get the resources you need to meet your unique goals. “I can see this working really well, even after social isolation is no longer needed, for people who find it challenging to fit a gym visit into their schedule,” Leanne suggests.

Just for you – For those extra workouts between classes, Leanne has also posted workout videos to her YouTube channel, with more coming each week. And if you have questions about your workout or fitness goals, “I’m a resource for them 24/7,” Leanne says. “I’ve never had set hours as I like to be available for our clients when they have questions.”
