Alliance arena committee making breakfast in January

Alliance Farmers Market closed until March

Welcome to Alliance Mariela, Marcela and Bruno Ferretti. The three-generation family, mother, daughter and son have moved into the house they purchased from Brenda Heyink, two houses up from The Trading Post. I asked why they chose Alliance. Marcela said that it was central to her work with Alberta Health Care at Coronation, Daysland and Hardisty.

The Alliance Farmer’s Market will be closed until March, when it will resume on the third Wednesday of the month until a break at July and then full force to the end of the year.

The Alliance Rockets hockey team will have home games Jan 8, 11 and 18 and then the annual tournament January 26-28. February home games are 1, 5, 12, 15 and 26. The fellas put on a good game. It is comfortable in our wonderful arena for spectators to watch from the heated lobby or on a bench rink side. There is no charge to watch the games.

The arena committee is cooking up breakfast sandwiches on Saturdays and Sundays for the month of January. They have been encouraged by the support of many coming out over the holidays to enjoy the camaraderie of the morning coffee crowd while the Valley Inn was closed.

The Argyle Branch of Alberta Women’s Institutes meets on Wednesday with new president Karin McCracken in the chair.

The Canadian government will match funds 4 to 1 for the Foodgrains Bank for a few more weeks. The Alliance United Church is going to have a Common Vision Concert to raise funds for the cause. The concert will feature local talent volunteering their time and gift for the enjoyment of all. This will take place soon. All types of talent are encouraged. Call Beth Davidson or myself to get involved.

Roger and Betty Spady had the whole family home for Christmas. Ryan and Anita and children came from Vancouver Island on Boxing Day and stayed until Jan 2.

Art and Tina Ratcliffe were in Devon with David and Susanne and family then home for a couple of days and then off to Saskatoon.

The first communion service was held on Sunday at the United Church. Communion is held usually the first Sunday of the month. The big difference with the United Church communion is that the communion is open to all since it is not the table of the United Church but the table of Jesus Christ and all are welcome.
