Both Canada Post Media Relations and the Coronation RCMP have confirmed that there was an attempted break-in of the Castor Post Office sometime in the overnight hours of Jan. 7 and Jan. 8, 2022.

According to Cpl. Troy Savinkoff of RCMP Media Relations, Coronation RCMP was made aware of the break and enter and the subsequent investigation showed that unknown suspect or suspects attempted to gain access into the mail area.

“They were unsuccessful and it does not appear access was gained,” said Savinkoff, via email statement.

“It is not believed that any mail or other items were taken.”

Canada Post Media Relations confirmed that the attempted break and enter occurred, but declined comment as the investigation is ongoing.

“We take these matters very seriously,” said Canada Post Media Relations officer Eunice Machui.

“We don’t divulge security measures or broader information related to our equipment publicly as doing so would hamper their effectiveness.”

The repairs to the facility were completed early on Jan. 10, 2022, and the facility was open by 1 p.m.

Anyone witnessing suspicious activity on or around Canada Post facilities is encouraged to contact the police and Canada Post Customer Service.

For the matter specifically surrounding the attempted break and enter in Castor, the Coronation RCMP is requesting that anyone with information call the detachment at 403-578-3666, or your local police.

If someone with information wishes to remain anonymous they can contact authorities via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com, or by using the P3 Tips mobile phone app available through the Apple and Google mobile stores.
