Congratulations to Cash Buchwitz on being named the 2021 Player of the Year for 15U AA Baseball by Baseball Alberta.

The 15-year-old from Endiang plays the positions of Pitcher and Center field in the Stettler Minor Ball Association and his team won the Tier 1 Baseball Provincials this year.

This is an awesome achievement Cash, congratulations on this prestigious provincial honour.

Cash is the son of Lane and Bobbi Buchwitz.

I recently ran into Orville and Nelda Hawthorne in a restaurant in Stettler having supper with their family.

During our chat I learned Orville and Nelda were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary that day.

Orville always asks about how things are in Byemoor and Endiang when I see him.

Many will remember when he operated the cream truck in our area delivering to Hanna.

Congratulations to Orville and Nelda on their milestone anniversary.

The Endmoor Minor Hockey 50/50 online fundraiser received tremendous support.

Congratulations to Kyle Switzer of Big Valley on being the lucky winner, taking home $6,790.

Nice windfall, Kyle and very handy just before Christmas.

Happy 90th Birthday wishes are sent to Ron Brown on Dec. 3.

He celebrated the special occasion with his family.

Congratulations on this milestone birthday, Ron and best wishes for many more.

The Endiang Christmas lights in the park were turned on Dec. 10.

The hamlet of Endiang has some wonderful light displays with many of the residents taking part.

Thanks to Terry Gallant and her helpers for decorating the park.

All the lights around town look fabulous.

Byemoor also has a spectacular Christmas light display with many tremendous displays throughout the hamlet and Betty Campbell’s adjacent farmyard. It is well worth the drive to see.

The Church at Endiang is hosting its third annual Christmas Carol service, “I’ll be Home for Christmas” on Dec. 19 at the Endiang Hall.

There will be two sittings for the services at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. but with current COVID-19 restrictions seating is limited and must be reserved by calling or texting 403-807-8730.

Current restrictions do not allow walk-ins.

There will be a box available at the door for donations to the local Food Banks.

The church committee for St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Scapa has decided to cancel its annual Christmas Candlelight Service this year due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Plans are to resume the service next year.

Please note, hours of operation for the Byemoor Landfill Transfer Station will be adjusted during the holidays as Christmas and New Years fall on Saturdays, the regular day to be open.

Holiday hours will be Friday, Dec. 24 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 31 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Christmas trivia —

“The British Royal Family does not open their presents on Christmas day, instead they open them on Christmas Eve as they attend church on Christmas morning. They also favour exchanging gag gifts for a royal laugh.”

“Although fir trees have traditionally been used to celebrate winter festivities for thousands of years the Christmas tree idea became popular in the UK when Queen Victoria’s husband Prince Albert brought one over from his native Germany in 1841 and placed it in Windsor Castle. They posed in front of it with their children for a newspaper article and it soon became fashionable all over the country.”

“Advent calendars as we know them today begin on Dec. 1 and count down 24 days to Christmas Eve. The countdown is said to originated in Germany in the early 19th-Century, with the Lutherans marking down the days until Christmas marked down the days with chalk on their front doors.”
