Castor Food Bank reports successful 2022

The Castor and District Food Bank has had another successful year.

Despite soaring food costs, food bank manager Sue Goodkey says that hampers were down in 2022.

“We look at this as a positive sign that perhaps things are on the upswing,” said Goodkey, in a recent note posted around Castor.

According to Goodkey, the Castor Food Bank has not been left wanting; the people of the community and the schools have been stepping up and donating in a big way.

Besides just donating food, there have been plenty of cash donations as well, which means, according to Goodkey, that the Food Bank can buy other less-frequently donated items.

For the Christmas hampers over the holiday season, Goodkey notes that Suncrest Colony was particularly generous, donating fresh vegetables for every hamper and filling many of the boxes with small appliances to “slippers in every size and colour.”

“Saying thank you just never seems adequate for all this community does for the food bank,” said Goodkey.

Looking later into 2023, Goodkey says she is looking into some grants to support the Foodbank during this time of high inflation.

Otherwise she intends to just “go with the flow” and she encourages folks to “keep on donating.”

“It’s going to a good place,” said Goodkey.
