Castor Opportunity Shop raises nearly $12,000 in 2022

Money donates to 7 different groups

The volunteers of Castor’s Opportunity Shop, the second-hand store which has been part of the community for five-decades, has had a very successful year.

According to to Barry Heidecker, one of the volunteers at the venerable organization, the Opportunity Shop raised close to $12,000 during the 2022 season “thanks to the generous contributors of goods to sell and our loyal customers.”

“None of this would have been possible without the participants of hundreds of volunteers who gave their time and efforts over the last 50 years,” said Heidecker.

The Opportunity Shop has long had a policy of donating funds raised back into the community and 2022 is no exception.

Thanks to the outstanding year the organization had, volunteers were able to donate to seven different organizations in the community.

Volunteers Wendy Bain and Connie Gutenberg presented cheques to the Castor Library ($2,500), the Gus Wetter School Archery Club ($2,000), the Castor Food Bank ($2,000), the junior curling club ($2,000), the Castor and District Family and Community Support Services ($1,000), the Castor Handi-van ($1,000) and the Castor Community Hall ($1,000).

The Opportunity Shop is now closed for the season, but plans are already underway for 2023.
