Clearview Public Schools trustees continue to advocate for provincial support due to rising fuel prices.

At the recent Alberta School Boards’ Association Spring General Meeting, the Clearview trustees, along with 100 per cent of other boards in attendance advocated for the return of a provincial fuel contingency model which would kick in at $1. 20 a litre.

Previously, Clearview trustees wrote a letter to the Minister of Education, Adriana LaGrange, noting concern about fuel costs and looking for support.

The recently passed Clearview budget, which passed in May, included a $200,000 increase for fuel for the 2022/2023 school year. The total budget for fuel for the year will be $675,000.

Teacher agreement ratified

Clearview’s board has heard from the Minister of Education that the new contract with teachers has been ratified.

The agreement was ratified on June 10, and is backdated to 2020. The four-year agreement will expire in August 2024.

Under the new agreement, teachers in the province will see a salary increase of around 3.75 per cent over three years.

Gus Wetter Modular

Clearview’s board of trustees has directed administration to begin the next steps in the construction and installation of the modular classroom at Gus Wetter School.

Plans for the project show that the classroom will be connected to the main school via a tunnel.

Clearview currently plans to get quotes for the project over the summer with installation to begin in the fall.

The project is funded partially through Alberta Infrastructure and partially through Clearview’s budget.

Time capsule

The Clearview board of trustees has granted approval to Stettler Elementary School to open a time capsule that was stored 30 years ago, in 1992.

Placed in the school after a renovation was completed, the 1992 capsule is potentially stored with one from 1957, the year the school opened.

Clearview’s board is “supportive” of opening both time capsules, and will share the contents with the community.
