The County of Paintearth has passed its interim 2023 operating and capital budgets.
Passing an interim budget prior to Jan. 1 is a requirement of the Municipal Government Act as the budget gives administration to continue spending money in the new year.
The budget passed by council during the Dec. 6 meeting has expenses of $13.7 million against revenues of $1.5 million.
Included in the capital budget is $6.2 million in new spending, funded through $3 million in capital revenues, over $500,000 from the sale of county assets, and $2.7 million from restricted reserves.
The budget assumes that $3 million of capital revenue will be coming from grants.
While the interim budget allows the county to remain operating into the new year, the final budget won’t be approved until March or April once the assessments are done and the county has a better idea what grants it will be receiving.
