The Elks held a community volunteer appreciation steak supper on Friday, Jan. 12 with 70 plus volunteers, from young to old in attendance. It was also pin night for several local lodge members. A full list of pin recipients will be in next week’s paper.

Our local lodge sponsors several large events during each year and are most appreciative of all the community members who lend a hand, and in turn, the community appreciates the Elk members for the work they do organizing and fundraising during these community events. All moneys raised go back into the community, for the betterment of the community and its residents.

Local students received a holiday on Friday when the busses didn’t run. Our weather has see-sawed by 30 degrees during the past week. But it’s Alberta and the sun continues to shine.

Students are now into basketball, with practice and games keeping everyone busy.

The Castor and district FCSS information session that was to be held on Wednesday at the senior centre was cancelled due to the cold weather and bad roads.

The Elks are hosting their annual Alaskan Seafood supper on Saturday, Feb. 10 commencing at 6 p.m. in the hall. This will be followed by Lars Callieou, a stand-up comedian from Edmonton. Lars has completed an impressive list of comedy credits including funniest new comedian in Alberta. Tickets are available at the Snack Shack in Halkirk, the drug store in Castor and at Wells Furniture in Stettler.

The local senior center will play host to a floor curling bonspiel held on Thursday, Feb. 15. Entrants are asked to phone Paul or Jacquie at 403-884–2565. They will be celebrating Valentines Day.

Thursday, Jan. 18th is the next hall board bingo starting at 7:30 sharp.
