For the Advance

Tourism in Castor is getting a boost from an area resident.

Thanks to the creativity of an area resident, the many draws to the region are being highlighted via a Castor Alberta Tourism Facebook page and an accompanying web site.

“I was looking on the Internet to see what there was to do in Castor, and there was very little (online),” said Jenessa Dunkle, the creator of the pages.

“I had read some travel blogs of people who have been through Castor, and they never knew about the creek, or the other things to do in Castor or the surrounding area.”

Using Facebook, Dunkle began showing the different activities to do in town, featuring the Castor Creek, the Castor Museum, and the different shops in town.

“I thought it would be kind of cool to do a web site and Facebook page to post all the businesses that a tourist would want to check out,” said Dunkle.

“I thought it would help the businesses already in Castor, and maybe bring in new businesses. It was a good (pandemic) project.”

Recently, Dunkle has highlighted the restaurants in town, a town mural, the Bulwark ghost town site around 20 minutes east on Hwy. 599, and Castor Little Theatre to name a few activities that could be seen to draw people into town.

She’s hoping that with an increased awareness of what there is in offer in town that it will help the existing businesses, and maybe draw more businesses in to the community, which has several empty commercial spaces available.
