A man has been confirmed deceased following a collision on the QEII on Oct. 2.

A release from the RCMP send out Oct. 4 explained further details of the incident including that a 47 year-old man died in the four vehicle collision about five kilometres north of the Highway 12 exit to Lacombe. It had previously been reported that the collision involved three vehicles.

Members from the Integrated Traffic Unit (ITU) based in Ponoka were called to the scene around 3:50 p.m. along with the Lacombe Fire Department and several EMS units.

Crews were on the scene for about five hours, with traffic eventually being allowed through on one northbound lane.

The cause of the collision is still being investigated and no further information is slated to be released.

Following an investigation by an RCMP collision analyst, it was determined the collision began when a northbound gravel truck struck the rear of a pick up truck hauling a trailer. That vehicle then struck a mini-van, which wound up in the centre median. The pick up and gravel truck both hit the ditch on the east side of the highway.

A fourth vehicle was also struck in the incident, but was not seriously damaged.

RCMP stated the two male drivers of the gravel truck and mini-van were treated at the scene and then transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The man driving the pick up was declared deceased at the scene.
