Clearview Public Schools is launching a Community Initiative Support Program for 2023. The board heard details about the program during its Jan. 19 meeting.
The pilot program, which has $100,000 allocated to it, has been created in recognition of the work done by the communities to “ensure viable community facilities and outdoor spaces are available” both for Clearview students directly and the wider community in general.
According to the policy, Clearview will provide financial support to community projects on a partnership basis and paying no more than 50 per cent of the total project and up to a maximum of $25,000.
Projects eligible for the pilot project must either be directly on school division property or “have a direct benefit” towards the education of students. Further, projects are more like to be supported if they are led by a society or community group, and need a reference from the community’s school preference.
In addition to financial support, the policy indicates that the school board may consider gifts in-kind as well.

Experiences Canada exchange
Students from Big Valley and Byemoor schools will be off for a “once in a lifetime experience” later this school year.
Three chaperones and 23 students will be travelling to Canada for an approved Experience Canada exchange.
According to the school division, activities and itineraries in Alberta and Quebec are still being worked out, but will “involve many experiences for students to engage in.”
Staff appreciation
Clearview Public Schools will be celebrating Staff Appreciation Week from Feb 13-17.
Community members and Clearview parents are encouraged by the division to “recognize the personal and professional contributions” Clearview staff members make to the students.
Staff members include more than just teachers; administrative assistants, education assistants, learning common assistants, mechanics, maintenance staff, bus drivers, custodians, and all other staff are being included in Clearview’s appreciation.
Advocacy
Clearview’s board of trustees is advocating to the province on behalf of the County of Stettler’s bridge portfolio.
Due to several bridges in the county having weight restrictions, several bus routes have had to be changed to avoid the structures.
According to the meeting highlights release, these changes add over 40 kilometres of travel per day for travel, adding extra time students are on buses and adds $11,000 per year to Clearview’s transportation costs.
Clearview’s board is going to ask the province for increased infrastructure funds for municipalities to deal with the repair and replacement of the aging bridges.
