Beginning Jan. 1, 2023, interested candidates will be able to file paperwork to run in the by-election.
The window for filing paperwork will remain open until nomination day, which has been set for Jan. 15.
To be eligible to run for village council, an individual must be at least 18 years old as of nomination day and must have been a resident in the community for at least six months prior to nomination day.
Further, a resident is ineligible if their property taxes are more than $50 in arrears, if they have owed in excess of $500 to the municipality for more than 90 days, or if they have been convicted an offense under the Local Authorities Election Act, the Election Act, Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act, or the Canada Elections Act within the past 10 years.
Once an interested individual submits their paperwork, they have until noon on Jan. 16 to withdraw their nomination.
The withdrawal must be in writing.
