Byemoor School kindergarten to Grade 3 classes visited the Endmoor Drop-In Centre on Dec. 14, 2021.

In a short get-together outdoors the students sang a Christmas song for the seniors and presented them with handmade tree ornaments.

The visit, although short because of the cold, was very much enjoyed and appreciated by the senior group.

Happy 65th Birthday greetings are sent to Dale Green, who celebrated his milestone birthday on Dec. 15.

Enjoy being on the government payroll, Dale.

Byemoor School presented their Christmas Concert at the Byemoor Hall on Thursday, Dec. 16.

Due to the COVID-19 rules there were two performances, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening, with limited seating in each.

It was wonderful for the families to have a live performance once again, as last year it was just by video.

As always, the traditional School Christmas Concert was a treasured highlight of the Christmas season in the community.

Byemoor 4-H Beef Club’s online auction fundraiser was immensely successful, raising more than $4,000 for club projects.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Barbara (nee Dye) Smith who passed away on Dec. 5 at the age of 91.

Barb grew up on the farm of her parents, Lynn and Helen Dye, in the Leo district north of Byemoor.

Condolences are sent to the family of Les Kneeland of Stettler who passed away on Dec. 7 at the age of 64 years.

Les was one of six children of Ernie and Kay (nee Knowles) Kneeland.

Les grew up in the Halkirk area where he and his wife Cathy farmed and raised their family.

Our thoughts are with the Kneeland and Knowles family in their sad loss.

Please remember, due to Christmas and New Years falling on weekends this year the hours at the Byemoor Landfill Transfer Station will be adjusted for the holidays.

The transfer station will be open on Friday, Dec. 24 from 10 – 2 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 31 from 10 – 2 p.m.

Byemoor Hotel’s Saturday pizza night is in a similar situation with Christmas and New Years falling on Saturdays.

There will be no pizza nights until Jan. 8, 2022.

Rosemary and I would like to wish the editor, staff, and all the readers of our column from near and far a most Merry Christmas with your family and friends.

Have a safe, enjoyable holiday season and may the New Year bring good health, happiness and a normal life once again to all.

Christmas trivia —

“Jingle Bells is one of the most well-known Christmas songs but it was originally composed in the 1850s as a Thanksgiving tune. Written by church organist James Pierpont, the song was first performed at a Thanksgiving service at his church in Savanna, Georgia.”

“Brazil set a world record in 2007 for the largest floating Christmas tree with its massive metal tree measuring 278 feet 10 inches tall and glowing with nearly three million lights. It is brought out each year and displayed in Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon in Rio Janerio.”
