Resident takes issue with policy of zero tolerance of alcohol in the arena and ball diamonds

‘Liability seems to be your issue’

I read your new policy of zero tolerance of alcohol in the arena and ball diamonds.

Liability seems to be your issue. In the fifty plus years of the arena being there have you ever had a claim against you? I believe you have just created yourselves a problem that didn’t exist.

To me this looks more like discrimination. The only ones who will be penalized are your home teams. What’s your plan for the visitors? It seems the “pot heads” will be able to chew their cannabis laced gummy bears anywhere even out on the ice without consequences.

To quote Don Cherry did any of YOU PEOPLE take the time to talk to any of the teams this is affecting or is this just like all the other politics and you’re sitting in your comfy chair.

You forget about the people your representing.

The toes your stepping on are a lot of the guys who coach your minor sports teams & the people who spend countless volunteer hours raising thousands of dollars every year for our recreation facilities.

I sure hope they don’t throw in the towel and tell you to raise your own funds and pay off the arena debt yourselves. That might throw a kink into the next budget.

Now let’s go over to the arena.

In the north end the heaters and deflectors are nice and shiny and produce great heat. Now let’s walk down to the south end where the deflectors are grimy, with some fuzz hanging on them and likely operating at about 50 per cent efficiency.

I’ve pointed this out to the rec director and arena manger the winter before the renovations began and after a million dollars renovation they are worse than before.

Maybe after your next council meeting is adjourned “you people” should lean back in your chairs, loosen your belts, put up your feet, suck back a couple of beers, shoot the breeze and have some laughs like the hockey players do after a game, win or lose.

Tired of petty politics,

Don Weber
