The Gus Wetter School senior high girls basketball team are the North Eastern League Champions.

Competing in zone finals in Bawlf, Alta. on Fri, March 11 and Sat, March 12, the team won the title of consolation champions for central Alberta 1A Girls.

This is the first time in the team’s history they have taken the championship title.

“This year has been an amazing year of growth, and the high school girls have exceeded our expectations,” said coach Sheldon Grice.

“They are quite possibly the best defensive team the Senior Tigers have seen in a while. They are the definition of the quote ‘offense wins games, but defense wins championships.’”

Grice is referring to a quote by football coach Paul “Bear” Bryant, whose team, Alabama State, won over 300 games games and six national championships while he was coach.

Congratulations Gus Wetter Senior Tigers!
