The Outlaws rode off with a win in the Beaverdome against the Coronation Royals on Nov. 13.
By out-shooting their opponents early in the first period, the Royals were able to draw first blood. However, it didn’t take long for the Outlaws to turn up the pressure and tie things up. At the end of the first period, the score was tied at one, and shots were tied at 11 aside.
Heading into the second period, the Royals picked up a goal on their second shot, less than thirty seconds in. The Royals managed to maintain the lead in both goals and shots on net until just under five-minutes left in the second, when the Outlaws tied things up.
The third period wasn’t able to decide things, with the score remaining tied through the period; though the Royals retained a slight edge in shots on goal. At the end of the period shots were 33 Royals, 25 Outlaws.
Unfortunately, the Royals penalty killers had to work overtime in the third, with the team drawing a number of successive penalties.
Overtime saw the start of five-minutes of four-on-four play. Unfortunately, Royal Evan Golby took a penalty just over two-minutes in giving the Outlaws a four-on-three opportunity which they capitalized on.
The final score was 3-2 for the Outlaws in overtime. The win puts Delburne into fifth place in the East Central Senior Men’s Hockey League with two wins and one loss. The loss puts the Coronation Royals into the sixth place with one win, one loss, and one over time loss.
The league plays a 16-game season. The Coronation Royals, drawing on players from Castor, Coronation and Consort plays “home” games in all three arenas through the season. The next Castor game will be Jan. 6 when the Royals host the Irma Aces.
