Massive Buffalo Lake is one of Alberta’s best-kept secrets, and with nearly 100-square kilometres of water surface, it’s a favourite for boaters, swimmers, kitesurfers and more.

The lake features a number of recreation areas, including Boss Hill, Rochon Sands, White Sands, Scenic Sands, Buffalo Sands. Pelican Point, Pelican View Estates, The Narrows and Rochon Sands Provincial Park.

Fishing is very productive on Buffalo Lake, producing considerable numbers of northern pike and the occasional burbot.

It is one of the few lakes to have its water levels maintained by an outside source, with officials drawing water from the Red Deer River as lake levels fall.

Buffalo Lake is located near Stettler, Alberta, and it’s short drive from Bashaw, about 80 kilometres from Red Deer, and 82 kilometres from Castor.
