August was a busy month for many people. Lots of camping trips, church camps and activities, and people visiting in and around Castor.

Family members from Castor travelled to Viking on Aug 18 to attend Ken and Evelyn Payne’s 40th Wedding Anniversary celebration. Ken’s niece Shelly (Olson) Taczay came from Ontario for the occasion. On Aug 22 she drove to Castor to help her cousin John Turnbull celebrate his 40th birthday.

On Aug 9, Kevin and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. We were blessed to have my mom, Carol and sister Brenda come from Melville SK, Kevin’s parents Doug and Aggie were here from Comox, BC, our friends Karyn and Denise came from Calgary for the weekend to help us celebrate, and Kevin’s Aunt Karen from Millet, AB also attended. We had a lovely lunch with about 60 friends and family, thanks largely to our good friends Jamie, Melanie, Bill, and Joanne.

Around town, many things happened throughout the month of August. We had the Castor Fair, which included the parade, a kid’s bouncy house, face painting, a pancake breakfast and delicious roast beef supper. There was the Castor Cruise-in car show the same weekend.

Castor Evangelical Missionary Church held their annual Vacation Bible School for kids, and the Christian Ashram had many out in Deer Valley Meadows for the weekend retreat.

The swimming pool has been busy all summer long, the town has had a weekly kids camp that has seen many kids partake throughout the summer, and Halkirk held their annual Bullarama. It was a busy and fun-filled summer indeed.

Now that the kids are back in school, please remember to slow down in the school zones, stop for school buses, and watch for kids playing or crossing the road.
