Theresetta School
Theresetta teachers and students blinked and it is already the middle of their December school days.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Theresetta. Classrooms and trees are being decorated, kids are wearing holiday-themed accessories, and all sorts of Christmas-themed assignments are a focus area. As a Catholic school, there are many important spiritual events happening this time of year that the Theresetta school community takes note of and celebrates. The season of Advent has begun, and the weekly candle lighting and reflection at school assemblies is a welcomed annual tradition. Classes are studying and reflecting on the important birthday soon to be celebrated; this is contributing to Theresetta’s holiday spirit.
On the topic of holiday spirit, the Grade 3-4 music class visited the lodge on Dec. 3 to practice their Christmas Concert songs. Several students had the opportunity to show off their individual musical talents as they played their own instruments and songs for the residents. Chantel Green performed “Jingle Bells” on the violin. Owen Beaumont and Iliann Munoz Bribiesca each performed a guitar solo. There were also piano solos from Leah Boxma, Harlyn Bunbury and Daphne Fuller. The students had a great time performing and practicing their upcoming concert pieces.

On Dec. 6 students from throughout the East Central Catholic School Division travelled to Wainwright for the first Religious Education Committee Meeting of the 2018-19 school year. At Theresetta, the chapter of this committee is known as the “Little Roses Club” in honour of the patron saint of Theresetta School, St. Therese. Students from Grade 5-9 travelled with Mr. Reis to Wainwright to meet up with the other school’s chapters and discuss some ideas to share in their own schools. The purpose of this day in Wainwright is to network with students from other schools while reflecting on everyone’s personal faith journeys. Colm Leyne, from Face to Face Ministries based out of Saskatoon, was the facilitator for the day. Students left the day with spiritual ideas and initiatives to be implemented at Theresetta School for the remainder of our year.
Both the girls and boys Theresetta Knights basketball teams have already had their first few practices and even some exhibition games throughout December. The boys have already travelled to play against the Gus Wetter and Provost squads, while the girls have faced off against Provost and Killam teams already. The students and coaches are looking forward to the start of league play in the new year.
The upcoming annual Theresetta Christmas Concert is nearly upon us.
Theresetta invites all of the Castor and area community to come and join in the school’s celebration of the most joyous time of year. The big show is set to take place on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. There will be a musical play performed by the Grade 1-6 classes, a student-created play performed by the Grade 9 class, and the traditional nativity scene play performed by the Grade 7-8 students. Please feel free to attend the show and join in on the celebrations in the Theresetta gym.
