After a successful first leg of his Alberta tour, singer Ken Lavigne is back in the province for another five dates including a stop in Coronation.

The Feb. 3 concert is part of Coronation Royal Performing Arts ongoing 2022-2023 season which has so far featured the vocal talents of East Coast-based the Ennis Sisters, Alberta duo Jenn Beaupre and Lewis Frere, and Wainwright country singer Ryan Lindsay.

During the first leg of Lavigne’s Alberta tour he was already in the region; he sang two performances in Stettler’s Performing Arts Centre.

“It’s been a nice tour of the province for us,” said Lavigne.

In a recent interview, Lavigne noted that the show he is bringing to Coronation will be a little different than the one be brought to Stettler. With the Stettler show being right before the holiday season, the first-half of the show was dedicated to the usual performance while the second-half was dedicated to Christmas music.

“We’re back to the regularly-scheduled programming,” Lavigne said, with a laugh.

Lavigne is currently touring his show “Three Knights and a Tenor,” featuring the music of three English knights: Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Sir Elton John. Lavigne himself is the tenor.

In 2004, Lavigne was one of the original members of The Canadian Tenors. Since that time, he has performed with a successful trio, ROMANZA, and toured as a solo artist all over Canada and the United States, even performing on the stage in New York’s prestigious Carnegie Hall.

According to Lavigne, the performance he is bringing to Coronation will be a guided “tour through this fantastic music” of iconic English performers.

Lavigne further noted that despite his coming during a time when the prairies are due to be hit by a cold spell, he’s going to “ensure the venue is hot with warm and inviting music.”

Joining Lavigne on the road are bassist Casey Ryder, pianist Nico Rhodes and violinist Jonathan Lewis.

Tickets for the show are still available at L & C bookkeeping or by calling 403-578-3838.

Lavigne currently resides in Chemainus, on Vancouver Island.
