A small section of land near the hamlet of Throne is going up for tax auction.

Tax roll#34140000 has carried a balance of $149.68 for quite some time. According to the request for decision submitted to the County of Paintearth council, the property in question was placed on the tax arrears list on March 29th, 2019, and taxes have not been paid on the parcel of land since 2016.

The request for decision stated that multiple attempts have been made to contact the landowner at their last known address in Sydney, British Columbia, and that the letters have been returned.

“I don’t see why we wouldn’t sell it,” said Paintearth County Div. 2 Coun. Dale Norton, speaking to the request.

“I motion we put it up for sale, as per recommendation, by sealed bids,” said Dep. Reeve Doreen Blumhagen. The motion was carried.

Per the assessor’s recommendation, the reserve bid for the property will be set at $680, the assessed value of the property, and the bidding will be closed as of the first council meeting in February 2021, date and time yet to be determined.
