The Coronation RCMP has charged a pair with mischief after investigating a complaint from earlier this month.

Around noon on March 13, the detachment received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle driving in private yards around Township Road 163 and Highway 855 on the west end of Paintearth County.

Property owners reported locating burned copper wire on their properties as well.

While patrolling the area investigating the complaint officers located the suspect vehicle and pulled it over.

Two individuals and a length of copper wire were located in the pickup truck.

Gregory Warren Badger, 45, of Edmonton was charged with mischief under $5,000, driving an uninsured motor vehicle on a highway, and operating a motor vehicle without registration.

Kristy Lee Hebb, 38, also of Edmonton, was charged with mischief under $5,000.

Both were released on conditions with a court appearance set for April 14, 2023.

Due to lack of registration or insurance, the suspect’s vehicle was towed and violation tickets issued alongside the criminal charges.

“In a small community, the problems associated with property related crimes are amplified,” said Cpl. Gina Slaney, an RCMP public information officer.

“As part of our Rural Crime Reduction Strategy we encourage members of the public and businesses to report suspicious activity. With the assistance of the community and the property representative we were able to locate the suspects involved.”
