The County of Paintearth held a community barbecue for the first time in too long on June 16.

Around 170 people came out for the barbecue which was held at Huber Dam Campground, a few kilometres west of Castor just off of Highway 599.

Dan Kinakin and his music students entertained the crowd while they ate a meal consisting of beef on a bun, baked beans and potato salad. There was also a variety of dessert to choose from.

Those feeling lucky could enter to win one of several photographic prints as a door prize.

Pre-COVID, the county used to run these events at least annually; however, like everything else in the world, those events were derailed over the past two years and it was only with the easing of health restrictions that they have begun making a comeback.
