COVID-19: Central zone active cases at 85 – up four since Friday

Province provides COVID-19 numbers Monday

The City of Red Deer and central zone’s active number of COVID-19 cases went up over the weekend.

The Alberta government reported 359 new cases of COVID-19 in its latest update Monday afternoon. A hundred and seventy-seven are from Friday, of which 103 were new cases, 86 on Saturday, and 96 on Sunday.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, took to Twitter to explain 74 cases on Aug. 14 were from before Friday and were reconciled in the database on that day.

“To be clear, these 74 cases are not attributed to new case information from Aug. 14, 15 or 16,” she said.

The government also reported three more deaths over the weekend, bringing the total to 224 – up from Friday’s total at 221. None of the deaths were in central zone.

The province now has 1,132 active cases of the virus – up from Friday’s 1,036.

The central zone has 85 active cases and 470 recoveries. On Friday, those numbers were 81 and 459 respectively. Three people are in hospital in the local zone.

The government’s geospatial map showed the City of Red Deer’s active cases was up Monday at 14 since Friday’s 10.

The Town of Sylvan Lake, Olds, Ponoka County, Wetaskiwin and Wetaskiwin County are reporting no active cases.

Lacombe County was at three active, Beaver County was at seven active and Flagstaff County had one active case Monday.

The City of Lacombe, Red Deer County, the Town of Camrose, Mountain View County and Starland County all have one active case each.

Wainwright had 42 active cases, while County of Stettler was at six active.

Calgary zone had 300 active cases, Edmonton zone was at 593, south zone at 42 and north zone at 102 active cases Monday.

Forty five people are in hospital across the province with the virus, of which 10 are in intensive care.

The number of recovered cases in the province reached 11,056 Monday.
