June 11, 1927 - April 28, 2020
Ethel Dorothy Duguid was the eighth of nine children born to Jessie and Lee Ewing at their farm near Michichi, Alberta on June 11, 1927.
Dorothy attended the Verdant Valley school from grade one through nine. Shetland ponies were her transportation for those school years. When reaching high school, there were no school buses, so she went to Drumheller where she stayed in a dormitory to begin high school. There were thirty six girls in one room, with six of them named Dorothy. In 1943 she accepted Christ into her life and chose to attend high school at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills where she could learn more about God and grow in her Christian life. After graduation in 1945 she spent a year at the Bible school studying God's word.
In the summer of 1946, Dorothy accepted a job at a farm home near Vulcan, Alberta. The lady she worked for had a brother whom she started dating. During harvest time she became engaged to James (Jim) Calvin Duguid and they were later married on February 22, 1947. The Lord blessed their union with four children: Lyle, June, Doug and Colleen.
After renting a farm north of Vulcan for three years, Jim and Dorothy bought a farm at Halkirk, Alberta where they lived for five years. Next, they bought a farm at Castor and lived in the area for the rest of their lives. The Lord blessed their lives together as they served Him in different ways. Dorothy taught Sunday School for many years and acted as President of the Women's Missionary Society for several years.
Dorothy passed away peacefully on April 28, 2020 at her residence in Castor at the age of 92 years.
