The prestigious Webber Academy in Calgary was recently awarded four Gold ratings in categories in educational excellence.
Many are likely familiar with the Webber Academy as the founder Dr. Neil Webber was raised at Endiang where he went to school and was a 4-H member.
His parents’ farm was sold to Bill Funk, later purchased by Clarence Collins and today is where Jim and Maureen Wasdal currently live.
Dr. Webber was an MLA and Cabinet Minister in the Alberta government prior to founding the Academy in 1997.
Webber Academy, operated by the Webber family, is a university preparatory school that goes beyond the provincial curriculum and has an enrolment of approximately 1,000 gifted students from kindergarten to Grade 12.
The Academy achieved a 100 per cent university acceptance rate last year.
Webber Academy is once again expanding; a brand new athletic park is under construction just west of Calgary.
The second-to-none park will rank among the best in the province featuring four baseball diamonds and an indoor field house with future plans calling for a soccer field and possibly a tennis or soccer training centre.
In 2010, when the Endiang community celebrated its 100th birthday milestone Dr. Neil Webber was invited to be parade marshal.
When the Webber Academy expanded in 2012 to include a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre at the campus, a delegation from Endiang was invited to the Grand Opening.
On a side note, Dr. Webber’s son Len Webber was also a provincial MLA and currently is an MP in the federal government.
Of interest too, Shane Ziemmer is a teacher at the Webber Academy.
He is the son of Ray and Cherrone Ziemmer, formerly from Craigmyle.
The Ziemmer family originated from Endiang as well.
